Emergency Bracelet
MedicAlert offers bracelets that can be worn to inform first responders of any urgent care issues if medical treatment is required. What I like about the bracelet is that it has a toll free number and membership identification code that allows emergency staff to have instant access to our cell phone number, our cochlear implant surgeon, C-Notes pediatrician, our insurance information, the make and model of her implant, any allergies, etc.
In addition to the toll free number and member identification code, we had the following lines inscribed on the back of the medalion in a very specific order. Without this order, the most important information to us would not fit.
NO MRI, NO DIATHERMY, LT COCHLEAR IMPLANT, DEAF, MENINGITIS RISK
Our daughter is 4-1/2yrs old now, about 39″ tall, and has a very skinny arms. The 5 inch stainless steel basic bracelet, the smallest they offered, fits her wrist very nicely. Unlike a wrist watch, you’ll want to make sure to allow adequate length for the medalion to be flipped over so that paramedics can read it without having to remove it from the child.
We plan to wait until she’s a little older before getting a necklace because of the added risk of choking on playground equipment. Click HERE to see some of the MedicAlert products. We ordered two of bracelet A126. I’m not sure if they had to upsize the medalion in order to accommodate my text but for me every letter in the writing was non-negotiable. At first our daughter did not want to wear it, but I tied it to something fun, like her favorite show or game. After a few hours, she doesn’t seem to mind and sits patiently for me to put it on her.
The welcome packet comes with a plastic window cling for your car, your medalion (bracelet, necklace, etc), and an emergency information card.We signed up through the Kid Smart program which apparently includes a discount.
